Nashville Sounds News Release
MEMPHIS - In what originally looked like a blowout, Nashville made its series opener against Memphis a close game but ended up losing 7-5.
Three runs were scored in the bottom of the second for Memphis. John Nogowski hit a RBI single that scored Tyler O'Neill that scored the first run. Ramon Urias hit in Adolis Garcia for run number two and Drew Robinson hit in the third run on a sacrifice fly.
O'Neill led off the bottom of the third with his fourth home run of the season, each of those have come against Nashville. Memphis would score one more that inning to make it 5-0.
In their second consecutive inning, Memphis led off with a home run, this time it was Andrew Knizner in the bottom of the fourth. With a second run scored in the inning, it was 7-0 going into the fifth.
Nashville scored their first runs in the top of the sixth when they plated three runners. After leading the inning off with two walks, Andy Ibanez hit a single to load the bases. Patrick Wisdom then grounded to Memphis second baseman Urias who threw the ball away that scored two runs. Trevino knocked the third run in on a groundout to put the score at 7-3.
Willie Calhoun helped Nashville creep back into the contest with a two-run shot, his eighth of the season, to cut Memphis' lead 7-5.
The Sounds were able to load the bases in the ninth inning to get the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first but were unable to capitalize. That would be it for Nashville as the Redbirds took game one of the series Saturday night, 7-5.
Game two of the series starts at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday. Sounds' right-hander Tim Dillard (1-1, 4.97) will face Redbirds' right-hander Anthony Shew (1-0, 0.00).
