Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -The Charlotte Knights will honor Military heroes with local family ties on Sunday, August 9th at BB&T Ballpark with a special Military Heroes Baseball Card Set to the first 1,000 fans at the team's 5:05 p.m. game. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. as the Knights host the Rochester Red Wings (Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins) in the finale of their three-game series. As part of the night, all Charlotte Knights players will wear camouflage jerseys and the team will honor the Military with a special pre-game on-field ceremony featuring members of the inaugural card set.
After launching an online contest in June in search of nominations for the commemorative card set, members of the Knights front office chose 15 Military heroes who served their country honorably. The 15 Military members appearing in the inaugural Military Heroes Team Card Set are: Angela Martis (U.S. Army), Glen Garlick (N.C. Air National Guard), James Dewey (U.S. Navy), Brian Walker (U.S. Navy), Rachel Ingram (Greensboro, NC), John Dyer (U.S. Air Force), Daniel Joseph Weightman (U.S. Army), Richard R. Moore (U.S. Air Force), W.R. Walker (U.S. Navy), Donald R. Lineberger (U.S. Air Force), Theodore Benjamin (U.S. Army), Daniel R. "We received an overwhelming response from our community for this one-of-a-kind card set," exclaimed Charlotte Knights General Manager Scotty Brown. "We're looking forward to capping off our Military Appreciation series on Sunday with one of our best Military nights yet."
Later in the month of August, the Knights will launch an online auction at www.charlotteknights.com featuring the Knights game-worn camouflage jerseys from the 2015 season. Fans can bid on the game-worn, autographed jerseys online with proceeds of the auction to benefit Charlotte Knights Charities and the USO of North Carolina.
Single-game tickets for Sunday's game, as well as all games during the 2015 season at BB&T Ballpark, are available by phone at 704-274-8282, in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office, or online at charlotteknights.com.
