Syracuse Mets News Release

Pawtucket, RI (August 6, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Pawtucket Red Sox, 4-0, Thursday night at McCoy Stadium. Two solo home runs gave the Chiefs the lead on the way to a fourth straight win. The Chiefs have now won seven straight games against the PawSox, including the first four of a two-city, seven-game stretch. Paolo Espino threw a season-high eight shutout innings in the win.

Syracuse (47-67) grabbed an early lead in the first inning. Matt den Dekker homered with one out in the first off William Cuevas, making his Triple-A debut, to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. The home run was den Dekker's second home run in three games.

The game held at 1-0 until the sixth. With two outs, Kevin Keyes hit a second solo home run to push the Syracuse lead to 2-0.

Pawtucket (44-48) couldn't solve Chiefs starter Paolo Espino. Espino hurled eight shutout innings, allowing just seven PawSox hits.

The Chiefs added two insurance runs in the ninth off Dayan Diaz. Matt Skole walked with one out, his 12th walk in 12 games with Syracuse. After Ricky Hague singled, Caleb Ramsey followed with an RBI single to score Skole and give Syracuse a 3-0 edge. Then after a walk to Josh Johnson, Steve Lerud hit a ground ball to first base. Jeff Bianchi tagged first base, then threw to second base to complete the double play. Because the force was off, Ricky Hague scored before the out was completed at second base to add a fourth run to the Chiefs' total.

Syracuse has won four straight games for the second time this season. The Chiefs will go for a season-high fifth consecutive win Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Richard Bleier is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Keith Couch for the PawSox.
