Louisville Bats News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Louisville (57-57) fell back to an even .500 with a 2-1 loss to Norfolk (65-46) at Harbor Park on Thursday afternoon. The loss gave the Bats an even split in the series as Louisville now leads the season series 4-3, with three more games next week at Louisville Slugger Field.

Right-hander Matt Buschmann (8-10, 4.03) coming off of a complete game shutout pitched five complete innings, allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts and took the loss. Norfolk was able to get on the board in the first with three consecutive hits, but Buschmann was able to escape without any further damage with a line drive double play to end the inning.

In the top of the second, Louisville got it's only run of the game on a solo home run off the bat of Ryan LaMarre, his seventh long ball of the season. All of LaMarre's home runs this season have been of the solo variety. He finished the game 2-for-3 with one walk, one RBI and one run scored.

The winning run of the game came in the fourth inning as Dariel Alvarez and Audry Perez both doubled, Perez' scoring Alvarez for the leading and eventually winning run.

Norfolk's right-hander Elih Villanueva (2-1, 5.40) earned the win as he worked six innings of one run baseball, only allowing the solo home run to LaMarre, while striking out two and hitting one batter.

The Tides bullpen came on and pitched three two-hit innings to end the ballgame. Louisville had runners on the bases in both the eighth and ninth inning but couldn't manufacture a run to tie it. Oliver Drake earned his 18th save with a one-hit ninth to secure the win for the Tides.

The Bats will now travel to Durham, North Carolina to face off with the Bulls in a three-game weekend series. Right-hander Robert Stephenson (4-0, 2.25) will square off with left-hander Matt Moore (0-2, 4.35) in game one of the series on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
