Syracuse, NY - René Rivera drove in three runs, but the Syracuse Mets fell to the Gwinnett Stripers, 11-4, on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse (32-35) scored in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Rubén Tejada reached base on an error on the right fielder Travis Demeritte. Rivera made Gwinnett pay for the error by following with a two-run home run over the right-field wall for a 2-0 Mets lead.

Gwinnett (37-29) responded in the top of the second. The visitors started the inning with four straight hits off Mets starter Anthony Kay. Sean Kazmar Jr. and Rafael Ortega singled, and Jonathan Morales doubled to score Kazmar Jr. to make it a 2-1 ballgame. Jack Lopez followed by bringing in Ortega on a single, knotting the game, 2-2. Morales then scored from third on a double play shortly after to give Gwinnett its first lead of the game, 3-2.

The Stripers added to their lead in the third. With two outs and a runner at first base, Kazmar Jr. homered to push the Gwinnett advantage to three, 5-2.

Gwinnett extended its lead in the seventh inning. Luis Marté cracked a double to start the frame, Kyle Wright advanced him to third on a sacrifice bunt before Demeritte drove in Marté on a double for a 6-2 lead.

In the eighth inning, Kazmar Jr. picked up his fourth hit of the game with a single to lead off. Then, Rafael Ortega hit a two-run homer over the right-field wall to push ahead, 8-2. The Stripers tacked on two more runs on a Jake Lopez double later in the inning, making the score 10-2.

Kyle Wright dazzled as the starter for Gwinnett. He allowed no earned runs on two hits and struck out ten batters over seven and 2/3 innings pitched. He shined on the mound while Kazmar Jr shined with the bat for the Stripers. The Gwinnett first basemen went 5-for-5 at the dish with three singles, a double, and a two-run home run.

The Stripers picked up another run in the top of the ninth on the second RBI single of the night from Lopez to take an 11-2 advantage.

The Mets briefly rallied in the ninth. Robinson Canó led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, Tejada walked, and Rivera plated Canó from second on a single into left field to trim the deficit to 11-3. Tejada moved to third on the single and scored moments later on a sac fly from Luis Guillorme, setting up the 11-4 final score.

Syracuse and Gwinnett continue their three-game series on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
