Memphis Drops Road Trip Finale in Round Rock, 7-4

ROUND ROCK, Tex. - The Memphis Redbirds lost their third straight game in Round Rock, dropping a 7-4 series finale to the Express on Monday night at the Dell Diamond.

Memphis lost three of four to Round Rock in the series and finished 6-10 against the Express in the sixteen-game season series.

Round Rock starter Scott Richmond allowed four runs (three runs) on nine hits over a season-high eight-plus innings for the win. Joseph Ortiz converted his second save, stranding two of three inherited runners.

Outfielder Adron Chambers homered and tripled while scoring a pair of runs in a losing effort. Outfielder Jamie Romak added three hits, including his team-leading 27th double. First baseman Brock Peterson singled in the ninth inning to extend his season-best hitting streak to nine games.

Memphis had an early 1-0 lead after the first two batters of the game. After Chambers smoked the first pitch that he saw from Scott Richmond for a triple, Kolten Wong hit an RBI groundout.

The Express rallied for two-runs in the in the third for a 2-1 advantage. After Round Rock loaded the bases with two outs against McGregor, Manny Ramirez lined a two-run single to center field to score Leury Garcia and Jim Adduci.

Chambers gave Memphis a 3-2 lead in the in the top of the fifth with his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot that landed into the Redbirds' bullpen in right center. Audry Perez previously reached on a two-out single and scored on Chambers' blast.

Round Rock went back ahead at 5-3 with three runs in the sixth, thanks to a couple of errors. Yangervis Solarte singled and scored on a Ramirez base bit combined with fielding error by Chambers. Next batter Joey Butler then reached on a throwing error by McGregor, who airmailed Peterson at first base that allowed Ramirez to score. Butler later scored on a wild pitch from McGregor.

Round Rock added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Garcia tripled and scored the first run before Chris McGuiness singled home Butler in the next frame.

Memphis loaded the bases in the ninth and scored one run to being the club within three runs, but failed to do further damage. The Redbirds went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position while stranding five in the loss.

McGregor (4-7) was charged with six runs (five earned) on eight hits in seven innings for the loss.

In his first game since being activated from the disabled list, Eric Fornataro scattered three hits for a run in one inning of relief.

The Redbirds return to the Bluff City tomorrow to open an eight-game homestand against the Tucson Padres (Triple-A Padres) and Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A Mets). It will be Memphis' only series against each club this season. Both clubs' starting pitchers have yet to be announced.
