Sacramento River Cats News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - In Sunday's completion of a May 6 suspended game at Raley Field, the River Cats fell to the 51s by a score of 13-4 in a contest that was called due to inclement weather in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sunday's game began nearly three months ago on May 6 at Raley Field when Sonny Gray walked two batters in the top of the first before the game was suspended due to rain. When the game resumed at 5:05 p.m. at Cashman Field in Las Vegas-with the River Cats batting last as the home team-lefty Andrew Werner was on the mound with no outs and men at first and second.
Werner allowed those two runners-and three others-to cross the plate in the top of the first, giving the 51s an early five-run lead. The River Cats plated three in the bottom of the first thanks do a Daric Barton bases-loaded double, scoring Shane Peterson, Michael Choice and Michael Taylor.
The 51s would score once in the third, four times in the fourth and three times in the seventh before the game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Sacramento the 13-4 loss. The fourth and final River Cats run came on a Grant Green run-scoring single in the fourth.
Gray suffered the loss without recording an out, while the win was awarded to 51s reliever Sean Henn. Barton paced the River Cats offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
The River Cats now prepare for their first doubleheader of the season at 5:05 p.m. on Monday at Cashman Field. Each game will last just seven innings, with game one pitting righty Sonny Gray (9-6, 3.02 ERA) against fellow righty D.J. Mitchell (5-4, 7.52 ERA), and game two featuring a matchup of right-hander Darren Byrd (1-0, 4.06 ERA) and righty Matt Fox (4-3, 4.79 ERA).
The River Cats return home on Tuesday, July 30 for an eight-game homestand against the Albuquerque Isotopes and Round Rock Express that will feature two fireworks shows, a jersey auction, the players' wives' food drive and a Nick Swisher bobblehead giveaway.
