Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers third baseman Jecksson Flores recorded two hits and drove in two runs, however Memphis starter Austin Gomber tossed a quality outing and left fielder Rangel Ravelo blasted a three-run homer in the Redbirds' 7-3 win over Omaha on Friday night at Werner Park.
The Storm Chasers got out to an early 2-0 lead in the third courtesy of Flores's RBI single and a run-scoring knock from DH Cheslor Cuthbert . The Redbirds halved that margin in the sixth via 1B John Nogowski 's sacrifice fly before Ravelo moved Memphis ahead 4-2 with his three-run shot one inning later. Flores drove in his second run with an RBI double to right, however the Redbirds added three late insurance runs to pull away with the victory.
Memphis SS Edmundo Sosa (2-5, 3B), CF Drew Robinson (2-5, R, 2B, RBI) and 3B Max Schrock (2-4, R) each tallied two knocks, while Flores (2-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) was the only batter for the Storm Chasers to post a multi-hit effort. Cuthbert has recorded hits in 15 of his last 16 contests thanks to his RBI single in the third.
Both teams' starters, Memphis' Austin Gomber (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 8 K) and Omaha's Glenn Sparkman (5.1 IP, 4 H, R, 0 ER, BB, 3 K) turned in good outings. Gomber earned the win, however Sparkman did not factor in the final decisions. Storm Chasers reliever Kyle Zimmer (1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB) suffered the defeat.
Omaha and Memphis are set to meet again on Saturday evening at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. RHP Scott Blewett (2-0, 4.32) is anticipated to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, while the Redbirds are expected to give the ball to RHP Jake Woodford (1-0, 1.16).
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
