McKinney's Slam Lifts Bisons to 5-4 Win over RailRiders
June 4, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Sometimes one swing makes all the deference in a game.
Billy McKinney's third inning grand slam powered the Bisons to a 5-4 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Tuesday night from Sahlen Field. The slam was part of a five-run rally that gave the Herd all the offense they would need to hold of the IL North's top team.
McKinney needed just one pitch to change a game that was all RailRiders early. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre led 3-0 thanks to a pair of Trey Amburgey home runs and an RBI single from Tyler Wade. But with the base loaded in the bottom of the third, the Bisons left fielder saw everything Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Daniel Camarena while he stood on the on deck circle, thanks to Anthony Alford's eight-pitch battle. After Alford went down on strikes, McKinney jumped on the first pitch of his at-bat and drove it off the top of the Bisons' tent out in right-center field.
The homer was McKinney's second in three days and came as part of 2-3 night at the plate at also included a walk.
The grand slam put the Bisons up 4-3, but the Herd scored another important run two batters later. After Teoscar Hernandez singled and stole second base, Patrick Kivlehan doubled into the right field corner for the 5-3 advantage. That proved to be important as Logan Morrison homered for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the fourth to close the gap.

The Bisons bullpen was excellent in securing the win. Buddy Broshers struck out the side in the sixth and racked up five punchouts of three hitless innings of work. Jordan Romano added a pair of strikeouts in the ninth before getting rehabbing Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius to ground out 1-4-3 to end the game.
Ryan Feierabend earned the win for Buffalo to improve to 3-1 on the year. The lefty scattered 11 hits over five frames and kept the game close by not issuing a single walk.
The Bisons and RailRiders are scheduled to play two more games Wednesday with the first contest scheduled for 5:35 p.m. (Gates 5:00 p.m.)
BISONS NOTES: Other than the five-run third inning, the Bisons had just two hits the contest and left just two men on base...Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius finished the game 0-for-5 at the plate...Neither team made an error in the contest.
