Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Nate Lowe hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Durham Bulls defeated the Norfolk Tides 7-6 Tuesday night at the DBAP. Hoby Milner (2-2) recorded the victory for the Bulls, while Jimmy Yacabonis (1-1) suffered the loss for the Tides.
Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the 10th, Emilio Bonifacio began the frame on second base, and Dashenko Ricardo drew a walk. That set the stage for Lowe, who blasted his fourth homer of the season over the right field wall, giving the Bulls their second straight victory.
The Tides were able to get on the board first on the evening thanks to an RBI single to right field by Mason Williams in the top of the fourth inning. Tides pitching the Bulls offense in check for much of the game, holding them scoreless for seven straight innings.
Bulls pitching picked up the slack for the offense for much of the game, beginning with a third consecutive scoreless inning by two-way player Jake Cronenworth, who struck out two batters. Jake Faria continued his successful run in the bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings in relief of Cronenworth. Ricardo Pinto added five more innings of relief, striking out eight.
Mike Brosseau provided some late game heroics for the Bulls in the bottom of the eighth, stepping to the plate with runners on first and second base, before launching a three-run home run to give the home side a 3-1 lead. Nick Solak went back-to-back with Brosseau, sending a solo home run to deep right field to make it 4-1.
However, the Tides were able to get a run back in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded walk to make it 4-2. The Bulls lead proved to be short-lived, as Ryan Mountcastle drove in two on an RBI single to make it 4-4 and send the game to extras.
In the 10th, the Tides jumped back in front, thanks to an RBI single by Mason Williams to make it 5-4. Cedric Mullins was able to score on a caught stealing rundown on Williams to add on and make it 6-4.
The Bulls will wrap up the three-game series against the Tides on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm at the DBAP. The Bulls will embark on a four-game road trip at Gwinnett beginning on Thursday night.
