Kansas City Mavericks News Release
MOLINE, IL (March 15, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks earned two points in their 3-1 victory over the Quad City Mallards on Sunday evening at the iWireless Center in Moline, IL. The Mavs struck first and never lost their lead through the sixty-minute contest, with special teams once again putting out a strong performance to net a power-play goal and a short-handed goal towards the Missouri victory.
Geoff Walker scored the first goal for the Mavs only 3:09 into the game. Walker was set-up by teammates Lindsay Sparks and Andrew Courtney for the opening power-play goal. John-Scott Dickson added his name to the scoresheet just three minutes later at 6:31 with the help of Geordie Wudrick and Jared Brown for a 2-0 lead.
Quad City cut into the Missouri advantage with their own power-play goal in the last minute of the frame (18:59) as Kevin Baker scored with help from Austin Coldwell and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel.
The Mavs maintained their 2-1 lead through the second period of play as neither side could find a way past the opposing net minders. Missouri goaltender Josh Robinson put out a spectacular display between the pipes, stopping all fifteen of the Mallards shots on goal.
Missouri put the final tally on the scoreboard, pushing them ahead 3-1 over the Mallards when Lindsay Sparks broke away short-handed and bested Evan Mosher in the crease. Defensman Patch Alber was credited with the lone assist on Sparks' seventeenth tally of the season for Missouri at 15:55 of the third period.
The Mavericks play their next game on the road in Toledo, OH on Friday, Mar. 20 at 6:15pm (CST). Catch all the action at Strikerz Entertainment Center - the Official Watch Party Destination of the Mavericks.
Missouri returns home on Saturday, Mar. 28 to face-off against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05pm (CST) at Independence Events Center for Fan Appreciation Night and the Warm-Up Jersey Auction.
