TODAY:
The Ontario Reign (33-17-4-5) play their second of a back-to-back weekend series against the Utah Grizzlies (30-25-5-3). With its regulation win last night, Ontario now leads the season series with a 5-3-2 record. Today's game marks the final time that the Reign will face the Grizzlies in ECHL regular season play; Ontario holds a lifetime 27-16-9 record against Utah.
A LONG TIME AGO ON A STAR WARS NIGHT FAR FAR AWAY...:
The Reign host their first Star Wars Night since Mar. 29 2013, when they defeated the Alaska Aces by a 2-1 score in overtime in front of 9,616 fans. Matt Register had the OT-winner for Ontario in that game; since then, he's gone on to take the club goal record for defensemen with 30. Register also leads the Reign against the Grizzlies in scoring this season with eight points (2g-6a) in 10 games.
GAME-WINNERS PILE UP FOR BLACKWATER:
For the second straight game, Judd Blackwater scored the eventual game-winning goal for Ontario. The forward has seven game-winning tallies on the season, and has been responsible for three of the past four game-winning goals for the Reign. He still requires three more to tie Colton Yellow Horn's single-season record of 10, set in 2012-13.
OLKINUORA POISED TO PASS BERUBE:
With 32 career wins in a Reign uniform, Jussi Olkinuora's next victory will give him sole possession of second place of the club's most career wins record, past current Manchester Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube.
