Beast Can't Conquer Carr in Loss to Oilers

TULSA, OK- The Brampton Beast are beaming with a new aura. The influx of good, young talent has paid dividends, bringing a positive and energetic life around the team. Youth and positive energy wouldn't be enough in this game, though, as the Tulsa Oilers once again proved that they have the Beast's number, defeating them by a final score of 3-1 at the BOK Centre in Oklahoma.
Dalton Thrower scored his third goal of the season, the lone marker for the Beast. Ryan DeMelo came up huge for Brampton, making the best start of his young professional career, racking up a career-high 31 saves in a duel of goaltenders.
The opening frame had a snail-like pace, with neither team able to find their groove due to a barrage of offsides and icings. When play was actually underway, both teams were able to set up offensively but both goalies were up to the task through out the frame. With just over a minute left in the period, Thrower jumped into the play at the Oilers blue line. He stole the puck, toe dragged around the defender, and snapped a shot that beat the outstretched glove of Kevin Carr for a 1-0 Beast lead.
The Oilers began to impose their will a little bit in the second period, as just 48 seconds into the frame, Tulsa replied. DeMelo kicked out a heavy point shot by Kevin Noble into traffic in front of the net. A scrum ensued and T.J Caig whacked the puck into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Three and a half minutes later, Kyle Bochek took a pass and skated into the Beast zone. He stepped over the top of the circle and wired a slap shot short side that beat DeMelo for a 2-1 Oilers lead. The Beast were outshot 16-9 during the period and if it weren't for DeMelo, the deficit could have been much larger.
The third period, on the other hand, was a terrific one for the Beast. The Beast peppered the Oilers with shots from all over the offensive zone. The Beast fired eight shots onto Carr within the first eight minutes of the stanza, but the Tulsa net minder was up to the challenge every time. The Beast outshot the Oilers 13-7 during the period, but Carr was the first star for a reason, making 13 saves in the frame to help the Oilers hold on before Tommy Mele sealed the 3-1 victory with an empty net goal with four seconds remaining.
The Beast conclude their road trip in Tulsa tomorrow before they return home on Thursday March 19, when they host St. Patrick's Day at the Powerade Centre, where fans are encouraged to rock their most outrageous St. Patty's Day gear. Friday March 20 is the Night of Champions, where the Beast will be celebrating success and excellence in sport. Sunday March 22 is team picture day, where the first 1000 fans in attendance will receive a free team picture that you can get signed during the free skate after the game!
