Colorado Eagles News Release
ANCHORAGE, Ala. -The Colorado Eagles (39-21-0-3) couldn't match the fire power of the Alaska Aces (29-23-3-4), falling 6-2, on Saturday night at Sullivan Arena.
The scoring was started much earlier tonight than on Friday, as Alaska forward Eric Higby buried home a pass from linemate Justin Breton after a costly turnover from Colorado 11:15 into the first period. One minute and seven seconds later, Alaska struck again as forward Brenden Connolly took advantage of a cross-slot pass from linemate Dean Chelios, giving the Aces a 2-0 lead. Alaska used the momentum to get a three-goal advantage 34 seconds later as Chris Francis threw home a rebound from the mid-slot past Eagles netminder Aaron Crandall.
Colorado wouldn't go silently into the night; 2:19 into the second frame forward Chris Knowlton entered the zone, cutting across the middle and changing the angle on Aces goaltender Niklas Lundstrom before sniping the Eagles back into the game, 3-1. Eagles forward Kyle Kraemer would continue the comeback for Colorado six minutes later on a wraparound, pulling the score to 3-2. Alaska would respond with 7:45 remaining in the period as Connolly would continue his role as the Eagle killer, scoring his seventh goal in eight games against Colorado, putting Alaska up 4-2. The Aces would score again2:16 later as defenseman Evan Renwick threw home a rebound past Crandall, extending Alaska's lead to 5-2.
Connolly would complete his hat trick 21 seconds into the third after firing a slapshot past Crandall from the left wing, giving the Aces a 6-2 lead.
Alaska's 6-2 lead would turn into a final, as the Eagles fell for the second time in Alaska this week. Colorado travels to Idaho for a two game set on Friday, setting up for a thrilling divisional matchup.
