WET WEDNESDAY / GAME SHOW NIGHT
Tonight's Matchup: After an impressive showing last night on the home ice, the Cyclones will wrap up another busy week of work on the road with their first visit to Fort Wayne on the season. Cincinnati has had great success at Memorial Coliseum over the years, earning points in nine of their ten get togethers (7-1-2-0).
Scouting the Komets: Gary Graham's club lost to the Cyclones for the first time last night and now is tied with the Toledo Walleye for the lead in the North Division race. Mike Embach, who was held pointless last night, continues to pace all Komets players in scoring with 56 points (20g, 36a) in 55 games this season. Shawn Szydlowski has been a regular offensive contributor as well, notching 51 tallies (25g, 26a) in 43 contests. Goaltender Mark Guggenberger has split his first two games as a member of the Komets and owns a 7-13-1-1 record and a 3.33 goals-against average. Fellow backstop Roman Will has posted a 10-6-1-3 mark thus far as a rookie with a 2.55 GAA.
Last Time Out: Forward Jack Downing earned a hat trick to lead the Cyclones over the Komets by a 3-1 final score in front of 7,185 at U.S. Bank Arena last night. It was the first time this season that a Cyclones player earned a three-goal game or better. Brett Wysopal and David Pacan each posted a pair of assists in the win.
Power Outage: While they have been one of the least-penalized teams in the ECHL this season, Cincinnati has continued to be extremely efficient when faced with a penalty kill. They have allowed just two power play goals in their last 10 games - a remarkable 26 of 30 in that span. Overall this season, they have earned an 81.1% kill rate.
The Closer: Cyclones rookie forward Joe Basaraba has surged to the team lead with five game-winning goals this season. He needs just two more such tallies to tie Josh Shalla's single-season high of seven from the 2012-13 campaign. Basaraba currently ranks second among all ECHL first-year players in that category.
