Kalamazoo Wings News Release
READING - Avenging a loss from the night before, the Reading Royals defeated the Kalamazoo Wings 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Santander Arena.
Earning the game's first goal, Jordan Heywood (8th) sent a wrister through a screen to give the Royals the lead 1:07 into the game.
Adding to their lead late in the period, Cam Reid fought for a rebound in the slot and scored his 25th goal of the season on the second chance opportunity.
Continuing the offensive barrage in the second period, the Royals scored three times in the period. Olivier Labelle (23rd) started the scoring 1:04 into the stanza to extend Reading's lead to three goals.
Standing next to the K-Wings net 6:28 into the second, Pat Mullane registered his 21st goal of the season to push the Royals to 4-0. Following the goal, the K-Wings made a goaltending change replacing Joel Martin with Garrett Bartus. Martin finished the game with 16 saves in nearly 27 minutes, while Bartus made 21 saves in 33 minutes.
Brett Flemming (4th) found the net midway in the period with a wrist shot that caromed off the goal post and over the goal line.
Kalamazoo notched their lone goal early in the third period off a wrist shot from Dane Fox (24th).
Just a minute after Fox put the K-Wings on the scoreboard, the Royals fired right back with a tally from Kevin Walrod (6th).
The K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium on Tuesday, March 17th with a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Indy Fuel during the 34th Annual "World Famous" St. Patrick's Day Green Ice Game, presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts.
