Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Wichita, KS (Nov. 9, 2014) - The Missouri Mavericks are beginning to build some momentum as they won their third straight game with a solid team effort and outstanding goaltending in Wichita on Sunday evening in a 5-2 win over the Thunder. The Mavs move above .500 for the first time this season and they are now off until Friday night when they host the Allen Americans.

John Griggs made a team-best 40 saves improving to 2-1 on the season as Missouri was outshot in the game 42-28.

"Our goaltending was outstanding tonight," said Missouri Head Coach Richard Matvichuk. "The defense and penalty kill really rallied tonight and did a solid job in earning the win."

Both goals allowed by the Mavs came while shorthanded as former Missouri forward Kenton Miller scored both Wichita goals.

Brandon Hynes started the scoring at the 8:34 mark of the first period recording his first goal of the season. Kellan Tochkin followed that with his second goal of the season at the 10:23 mark giving Missouri a 2-0 lead.

The only goal in the second period came off the stick of Andrew Courtney, his first goal of the season, and Evan Vossen closed out the scoring for Missouri with a pair of third period goals (his second and third on the season).

"This was a great team effort and the guys really kept the fore-check going all game long," said Matvichuk. "We need to find a way to stay out of the penalty box and be more disciplined but all-in-all I am very pleased with the way things turned out this evening."

Sebastien Thinel had an assist on the game's first goal extending his point streak to six games (3-58).

Missouri missed on both power play chances they had in the game, while Wichita went 2 for 6.
