ALLEN, TX - The Tulsa Oilers watched a late third period lead evaporate only to have it restored in the closing seconds by Jake Obermeyer in a 3-2 Tulsa victory over the Allen Americans on Sunday evening at the Allen Event Center. With less than a minute remaining in regulation, Obermeyer accelerated to join a 4-on-2 rush and buried a perfect pass from Adam Pleskach to help the Oilers snap a two-game skid and skate out of North Texas with a weekend split.

The clubs battled to a scoreless draw until the final seconds of the first period when T.J. Caig was able to elevate a rebound over Allen goalie Riley Gill with only 16.4 ticks on the clock. Caig's seventh goal of the season gave Tulsa a 1-0 edge heading into the intermission.

The Oilers defense remained strong in the middle frame but the Americans thought they had found the equalizer at the 10:19 mark. Spencer Asuchak slid the puck past a fallen Kevin Carr but referee Chris Pitoscia ruled that Americans forward Austin Smith interfered with the Tulsa netminder. The goal was waved off and with a player from each team already in the penalty box, the Oilers were awarded a lengthy 4-on-3 power play. Caig was stopped by Gill at close range but the puck bounced across the Allen crease where it was slammed home by Drew Fisher to give Tulsa a 2-0 advantage at 11:29.

The Oilers lead was cut in half at 12:09 of the third as Tyler Ludwig was finally able to beat Carr by dragging a puck across the top of the Tulsa crease and firing over the sprawling goaltender. With just over two minutes remaining, Justin Baker slapped a failed Oilers clearing attempt toward the net and Jack Combs was on the doorstep to jam in the loose puck and level the score at 2-2. Despite losing the lead, the Oilers went right back to work. Pleskach started an odd-man rush down the left-wing of the Allen zone and whipped a pass across the circles to the waiting tape of Obermeyer. As Gill and the rest of the Americans defense corp focused on Pleskach, Obermeyer had a clear lane and an open net. The Oilers were back in front and held off the Americans for the final 50 seconds to secure the two points.

Tulsa's penalty kill unit, ranked just 25th in the ECHL entering the contest, successfully wiped out all seven Allen power plays and has now gone four consecutive games without surrendering a power play goal.

Carr recorded 30 saves for his fourth win of the season and the Oilers improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 on the road.

The Oilers return to the BOK Center on Friday, November 14th at 7:35 p.m. against the Quad City Mallards. The first 1,000 fans into the arena will receive a free rally towel from Country Financial and free tickets are available for all active and retired military personnel.
