NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - A night after a gritty come-from-behind victory of division leading Florida, the Gladiators (4-3-0-0) will get right back to it with an afternoon match with the South Carolina Stingrays (2-4-0-3) in North Charleston, SC. It will be only the second road match for the Gladiators after closing out a successful 4-2 home stand.
The Stingrays have dropped six of their last seven, including three shootout losses in the last five games. South Carolina has played the majority of their season at home - today's game will mark the end of a five-game home set, then they will play at Greenville on Monday before starting another five-game stand at home.
Glads Notes:
There's No Place Like Home Ice: The Gladiators have won eight of their last 11 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, and 11 of their last 15, dating back to February 25th.
Batten Down the Hatches: The Gladiators are 3-0 when allowing two or fewer goals in a game, and when holding a lead going into the third period. Since the Rick Emmett Era began in October 2013, the team is 24-0 when leading after two periods.
First Up: This season, the Gladiators are 3-0 when scoring first. This continues a trend from last season, when the team was markedly better when scoring first (22-13-2-0).
Gladiators Ahoy: Four players currently on the Gladiators roster have been assigned from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates- Jordon Southorn, Greg Carey, Nathan Burns, and Dyson Stevenson - and three more - Joel Hanley (POR), Dan O'Donoghue (POR), and Bretton Stamler (HFD) - were assigned to Gwinnett and have since been recalled to the AHL.
Milestones: Joe Stejskal is two games away from his 100th ECHL contest, and nine away from his 200th professional game ... Casey Pierro-Zabotel is four games away from his 300th ECHL game ...
