Forward Joey Diamond Registers Two Assists in 4-2 Loss to Gladiators

North Charleston, S.C. - Defenseman Garrett Haar scored his first professional goal and forward Joey Diamond added two assists, but the South Carolina Stingrays (2-5-0-3) fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (5-3-0-0) 4-2 on Crews Subaru Family Sunday at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon.

The Stingrays grabbed the lead late in the first period when forward Joe Devin buried his fourth goal of the season while on a 5-on-3 power play. Devin caught a backhanded pass from Diamond at the bottom of the left-wing circle and snapped a shot past the blocker of Gladiators goaltender Mark Guggenberger (W, 32 saves on 34 shots) at 17:38. Defenseman Michal Cajkovsky earned the second assist.

The Gladiators responded with two tallies from forward Greg Carey in the second period to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Carey grabbed his first goal of the season at 4:52 while skating 4-on-4 with Gladiators forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Stingrays defenseman Wade Epp in the box for roughing. Moments later, Carey put the Gladiators on top at 7:48 beating Stingrays goaltender Brandon Anderson (L, 16 saves on 19 shots).

Carey completed the hat trick at 3:13 of the third period and sealed the victory with an empty-net marker at 19:17. Haar broke up the Gladiators' scoring with his first professional goal at 6:24 firing a shot under Guggenberger from the right circle. Defenseman Mike Devin and Diamond earned assists. The Stingrays finished the contest 1-for-6 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-3.

The Stingrays take on the Greenville Road Warriors to continue the Battle of the Palmetto State tomorrow, Monday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum, open a five-game homestand and a three-game in three-day weekend on Friday, November 14 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. Friday is Family 4 Pack Friday !
