Aces seize first home win of season behind Iles' 26 stops

ANCHORAGE - Andy Iles made 26 saves while Olivier Archambault, Tim Coffman and Greg Wolfe combined for eight points to lift the Alaska Aces to a 4-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors before 4,346 fans at Sullivan Arena on Saturday.

The Aces, who earned their first home win of the season, buried two power-play goals and also produced a perfect 7-of-7 effort on the penalty kill, including a five-on-three situation in th e third period. Archambault scored two goals, aided on Corey Syvret's power play goal in the third period, and was involved in a scrap with Josh Winquist in the opening period.

Francis Verreault-Paul converted a rebound at the net at 5:17 of the first period for a 1-0 lead, but the Aces showed resiliency by responding on back-to-back goals for a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Archambault's four-on-four goal at 7:08 was a snap shot buried under the crossbar from the slot, and Coffman found Brad Richard open at the right circle, who followed his own rebound for a power play goal with 7:48 left.

Archambault extended the Aces lead to 3-1 with 4:23 left in the second period on a tap in at the goal mouth, after Frans Tuohimaa kicked Justin Johnson's turnaround shot right to the tape of Archambault, stationed at the right post.

Iles came through with nine saves in the final period, including a close range bid by Chase Schaber on the Condors two-man advantage. Syvret's second goal of the season put the game out of reach at 4-1, with 5:51 left in regulation when he finished Archambault's centering pass from between the circles.

Tuohimaa, who had to stop 40 shots for a one-goal win at Sullivan Arena on Wednesday, took his first career ECHL loss with 25 stops.
