Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks (4-1-1-0) took a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wichita (3-1-2-0) in overtime Friday at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

Mark Cooper scored the game-winner, a breakaway backhand less than two minutes into the extra time off a feed from Willie Raskob.

Wichita took the lead into the locker rooms after 20 minutes, a slow first period that featured just 10 combined shots. The goal came on the man advantage, Travis Brown's first of the season.

Kansas City came out hot in the second, dictating flow and getting to its game early en route to earning two power plays in the first four minutes of action. Eventually it was David Dziurzynski depositing his third of the season to tie the game, with helpers from C.J. Eick and Mark Cooper near the halfway point in the contest.

The Mavs took the game in overtime after a scoreless third frame, Cooper's fourth goal of the season off a feed from Raskob less than two minutes into the extra set.

The Mavericks return to action Saturday night as they play host to the Utah Grizzlies, who were idle on Friday. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and tickets for the game remain on sale.
