Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, are proud to announce that forward Braylon Shmyr has been named the Howies Hockey Tape ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.
Braylon Shmyr, who joined Allen late last season, got off to a fast start scoring seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in eight games this year.
Shmyr was loaned to the Springfield Thunderbirds this week. He's expected to see his first action at the American Hockey League level this weekend.
The resident of Calgary, Alberta played his junior hockey the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades. Last season with Saskatoon, he had 88 points in 72 games.
The Americans return to game action tonight against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 pm. This is the first meeting between the two clubs since the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals, when Allen beat South Carolina in seven games to win their first Kelly Cup.
