Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI. - Four unanswered goals in the middle frame doomed the K-Wings as Cincinnati topped Kalamazoo 7-1 on Friday night.
The first period was an active one on the scoreboard as Cincinnati skated out to a 3-0 lead before Kalamazoo broke through. Cincinnati got on the board just over a minute into the opening period. Justin Vaive sent a puck that took a hop over the shoulder of Jake Hildebrand and trickled into the cage, putting the Cyclones ahead early. Cincinnati would add two more tallies in the opening period getting goals from Tobie Bisson, and Eric Knodel, to take a 3-0 lead.
Less than a minute after the Cyclones third goal the K-Wings got their lone tally of the night. Short-handed Chris Collins fed a pass over to Justin Taylor who knocked the puck past Michael House for his fifth of the season, and the K-Wings lone goal of the night.
In the second the Cyclone offense exploded for another four goals, including two from Judd Peterson to take a 7-1 lead by the end of the frame. Jake Hildebrand's night was ended early, after surrendering five goals on 24 shots.
The four second period tallies marked the end of the scoring as the teams played to a scoreless third period.
Keegan Asmundson, appearing in relief, stopped 12 of 14 shots in his second appearance of the season. Michael House, topping the K-Wings for the second straight game, stopped 27 of 28.
Kalamazoo continues a three-in-three tomorrow night in Ft. Wayne, taking on the Komets.
