Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, dropped a 5-4 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday night at Allen Event Center.
Things started out great for the Americans, as Johnny McInnis scored his first of the season and first with Allen at the 7:22 mark of the first period. Dante Salituro would make it 2-0 late in the first for his 4th of the year, from Thomas Frazee and Jordan Stallard. The period ended with Allen up 2-0.
The Americans added to their lead in the second, when Dalton Thrower's blast from the right circle was deflected home by Chase Lang for his first of the year and a 3-0 lead. That would be the last lead of the game for Allen. South Carolina would go on to score five unanswered goals over the final 29 and a half minutes of the hockey game fueled by two goals from South Carolina forward Grant Besse, who ended up with a four point night and plus two with four shots on goal. Eric Roy cut the lead to one goal late in the third period, but the Americans were unable to tie it and fell to the Stingrays 5-4, to drop their second game in a row.
"We got off to a great start in the first and were outplaying them, "said Americans forward Thomas Frazee. "Unfortunately in the second period we got into penalty trouble and things snowballed from there."
The same two clubs battle it out tomorrow night on Marvel Super-Hero Night in Allen. Tickets are on sale NOW on www.allenamericans.com.
