Erie SeaWolves News Release
(Erie, PA) - The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce that RHP Matt Manning and infielder Isaac Paredes have been selected to the 2019 SIRIUSXM All-Stars Futures Game which will be held on Sunday, July 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The duo will join former SeaWolves and current Toledo Mud Hens catcher Jake Rogers, who played in Erie in 2018 and part of 2019. It's also the first time since 2017 that a pair of current SeaWolves were named to the Futures Game (Beau Burrows and Jairo Labourt).
MATT MANNING
2019 Eastern League All-Star Matt Manning makes his second Futures Game roster in as many seasons. The righty played in the 2018 Futures Game held at Nationals Park in Washington, DC. Manning is in his first full season at the Double-A level. In 15 starts for the SeaWolves, Manning has posted a 6-4 record with a 2.60 ERA. He has collected a league-high 102 strikeouts in 86.2 innings of work. He is third in the EL in innings pitched and eighth in ERA. Manning has struck out at least seven hitters in seven of his 15 starts and has racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts on two separate occasions. Manning was the Tigers First Round selection (9th overall) out of Sheldon High School in Sacramento, CA in 2016.
ISAAC PAREDES
Isaac Paredes has been named to the Futures Game for the first time in his career. He was also named a 2019 Eastern League All-Star and is a mid-season All-Star for the second time in his career. He was a mid-season Florida State League All-Star in 2018 while playing with Class-A Lakeland. Paredes was also named an MLB.com Detroit Tigers organization All-Star in 2018 and a post-season AZL All-Star in 2016. In 70 games with the SeaWolves in 2019, Paredes is hitting .259 with four home runs, 29 RBIs and 32 walks. Paredes was originally signed by the Chicago Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on June 4, 2016. The Tigers acquired Paredes on July 31, 2017 from the Cubs, along with Jeimer Candelario in exchange for Alex Avila and Justin Wilson.
The SeaWolves take on the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals) tonight at UPMC Park at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Nicholas Castellanos bobblehead courtesy of UPMC Hamot. Fans can purchase tickets at the UPMC Park ticket office or online at SeaWolves.com.
