Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(READING, PA) - Alec Bohm came through for the Fightins in the bottom of the 10th inning on Friday, lining a two-run single to right-center to secure a 5-4, walkoff victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Savage 61 Fiesta Friday at FirstEnergy Stadium.

With the bases loaded and one out, the Fightin Phils trailed the Sea Dogs 4-3 in the last of the 10th. Bohm got ahead in the count 3-1, then shot a single into right to plate Luke Williams and Jose Gomez just ahead of the throw from Jarren Duran to send the Fightins home with their fifth walkoff win of the season.

The Fightins (6-5) (45-33) brought some thunder with two outs in the first inning, after Mickey Moniak was hit by a pitch. Darick Hall drilled a double off the warning track in left, and Grenny Cumana followed by stinging a three-run home run off the left field foul pole to give the Fightins a 3-0 lead.

The long ball for Cumana was his first since hitting the go-ahead homer for the Clearwater Threshers in the FSL North Championship series on September 4 last season.

Portland (3-6) (30-46) went deep as well in the second, as Tate Matheny lifted a solo shot to left to cut the Reading lead to 3-1.

The score held until the sixth, when the Sea Dogs opened the frame with a pair of soft singles and a walk that loaded the bases against David Parkinson with nobody out. Joey Curletta brought Portland to within one, sending a sacrifice fly to left.

Parkinson worked 5.1 innings in the start, permitting two runs on five hits and three walks in the no-decision.

Grant Dyer came on to make his Double-A debut and inherited the tying run at second with just one out. The 23-year-old right-hander proceeded to strike out Matheny on a fastball and Luke Tendler on a curveball to end the inning.

Denyi Reyes settled in after the first and retired 15 straight for Portland before Moniak broke up the streak with a two-out single in the sixth. Reyes went on to work a season-high eight innings for the Sea Dogs.

Portland brought it even in the seventh, after a three-base error on Cumana in left put Jeremy Rivera at third with nobody out. Dyer got Denier Lopez to pop to second, but Duran singled through the right side to knot the game up at three.

Dyer permitted just an unearned run in 1.2 innings, striking out three. Jeff Singer added two scoreless.

Portland cashed in on the free runner to take the lead in the 10th. With Duran starting the inning at second, Jhon Nunez sacrificed him down to third. CJ Chatham's grounder to second allowed Duran to score ahead the of throw home from the pitcher Aaron Brown (3-4), giving the Sea Dogs their first lead of the game.

Reading opened the bottom of the 10th with Williams at second, and Gomez drew a five-pitch walk off Jake Cosart (1-1). Henri Lartigue sacrificed both into scoring position, and the Sea Dogs elected to intentionally walk Josh Stephen to load the bases for Bohm, who delivered the game-winner.

Game three of the four-game series is set for Saturday at 6:45 p.m. Damon Jones makes his home debut for the Fightins, opposed by Kutter Crawford. The game will be broadcast on 610 ESPN and the Fightins radio network beginning at 6:15 p.m.
