Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Akron RubberDucks twice took one-run leads on shortstop Ernie Clement's RBI singles, but the Bowie Baysox rallied to tie each time, and designated hitter Rylan Bannon hit a go-ahead, sixth-inning solo home run to lead his team to a 3-2 victory and its first back-to-back wins against Akron this season at Prince George's Stadium on Friday night.

Turning Point

With Akron holding a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, Baysox second baseman Chris Clare hit a one-out double to left field and went to third base on a groundout. Center fielder Ryan McKenna hit a game-tying triple to right-center field off left-hander Sam Hentges, ending his start. Right-hander Robert Broom (1-2) entered to record the final out and preserve the 2-2 tie, but with one out in the sixth inning, he allowed Bannon's solo home run - the first Broom has allowed in the Eastern League. Right-handed Eastern League batters had been 1-for-22 against Broom prior to Bannon's hit.

Mound Presence

Hentges lasted 4 2/3 innings and 97 pitches, including throwing at least eight pitches to five different Baysox. With one-run leads, he allowed the tying runs in the fourth and fifth innings, yielding six hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Broom retired four batters, outside of Bannon's home run. All-Star left-hander Kyle Nelson worked around a walk in a scoreless seventh inning, and right-hander Dalbert Siri struck out the side in the ninth inning. For Bowie, left-hander Bruce Zimmermann (3-2) allowed two earned runs in six innings. Left-hander Zach Muckenhirn pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and right-hander Cristian Alvarado got the final four outs for his first save in five seasons.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks broke a scoreless tie in the third inning, as first baseman Nellie Rodriguez doubled to left field and scored on Clement's two-out single to right field. In the fifth inning, catcher Logan Ice drew a leadoff walk, right fielder Trenton Brooks doubled, and Clement drove in Ice with an infield single to shortstop. Akron had the tying run on base in the seventh and eighth innings but did not score.
