Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie Baysox catcher Carlos Perez hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the third inning off Akron Rubberducks right-hander Jake Paulson (5-5), while Baysox right-hander Dean Kremer (3-4) pitched five innings, allowing two runs, and right-hander Michael Baumann closed the game with four shutout innings in a 5-2 win over the RubberDucks in the openerof a four-game weekend set at Prince George's Stadium on Thursday night.
Turning Point
With the score 1-1 in the third inning, Paulson allowed a one-out single to shortstop Mason McCoy, who went to second base on a wild pitch and advanced to third base on a flyout. Paulson walked designated hitter Yusniel Diaz, putting two on with two out, and Perez homered down the left-field line to give Bowie the lead for good.
Mound Presence
In the first inning, Paulson yielded one run via Perez's sacrifice fly. After the three-run third inning, he did not allow another run before exiting with two outs in the sixth. Left-hander David Speer got the final out of the inning but allowed first baseman Preston Palmeiro's seventh-inning leadoff home run. Right-hander Jared Robinson finished the game, spinning four punch-outs over one and two-thirds innings. Kremer allowed Akron's only runs in the first and fifth innings before giving way to Baumann, whose four scoreless innings earned his first career save.
