Trenton Thunder News Release
The Thunder, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, are pleased to announce that RHP Deivi Garcia has been selected to the American League Roster for the Sirius/XM Futures Game taking place on Sunday, July 7 at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians.
The seven-inning exhibition is slated to begin at 7:00pm and will be carried live on MLB Network.
Ranked as one of the top prospects in the Yankees organization, Deivi Garcia leads all MiLB starters with a 15.2 K/9 and has struck out 109 batters in 64.2 innings this season. Garcia joined the Thunder on May 1 and struck out 11 New Hampshire Fisher Cats in his 2019 team debut. In his last two starts at ARM & HAMMER Park, Garcia has written his name into the franchise's record books by matching Adam Warren's franchise record of 15 strikeouts in a game on June 18 against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and delivered the first five innings of the fourth nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history.
Garcia, a 20-year-old, from Bonao in the Dominican Republic was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 23 and has been recognized as an Eastern League All-Star. He is the 20th player in franchise history, and the first since Domingo Acevedo in 2017, to participate in the Futures Game.
The Eastern League had six players and one umpire, Jacob Metz, named to the roster. Garcia will be joined by Erie RHP Matt Manning, New Hampshire RHP Nate Pearson, Erie INF Isaac Paredes, Reading INF Alec Bohm and Portland INF Jarren Duran.
The Thunder continue their series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) tonight at 7:00pm. For the latest information on upcoming promotions and to purchase tickets, please visit www.TrentonThunder.com.
