Pork Roll Drop Second Straight to Fisher Cats
June 28, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
The Thunder offense sputtered Friday night, missing out on numerous run-scoring opportunities in a 5-2 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in front of a crowd of 5,078 at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The Pork Roll (5-5, 43-32) stranded 12 runners in the game, matching a season-high, and went just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
New Hampshire (4-6, 35-42) jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead on a two-run double by Alberto Mineo following a pair of singles. The Fisher Cats added one run in each of the next two innings, forcing Pork Roll starter Rony Garcia (1-6) to throw a total of 73 pitches through the first three innings. The right-hander lasted just four and two-thirds innings, throwing 100 pitches (64 strikes). Garcia allowed a bases-loaded walk in the second inning and gave up an RBI-double to Chad Spanberger in the third.
Kellin Deglan produced the only runs in the game for the Pork Roll with RBI-singles in the first and third innings. Deglan went 3-for-5, while six other players in the Pork Roll lineup struck out at least twice.
Hector Perez (5-3) earned the win for the Fisher Cats, striking out nine over six innings in a piggyback start and allowing just one run.
The Pork Roll brought the tying run to the plate in four different innings, including loading the bases with none out in the eighth against reliever Jake Fishman. But Fishman struck out two and induced a groundout to snuff out the biggest Pork Roll threat of the evening.
Braden Bristo limited the Fisher Cats to one run over two and one-third innings of relief in his Double-A debut, and Trevor Lane held New Hampshire scoreless over the final two innings.
Your Thunder continue their homestand on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. against the Fisher Cats. RHP Brian Keller (0-0, 3.60) will start for the Thunder, and LHP Zach Logue (3-4, 3.75) will go for New Hampshire. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
