Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Richmond, VA - Richmond starting pitcher Alfred Gutierrez allowed only run in six solid innings while earning his fifth win, as the Flying Squirrels beat the Yard Goats 3-2 on Friday night at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia. Hartford had a 1-0 lead early, and Johneshwy Fargas broke a 1-1 tie with a RBI double in the sixth inning putting Richmond in front, 2-1. Fargas went 4-4 with a double and drove in a pair of runs for the home team. Yard Goats lefty Jack Wynkoop was the tough luck loser but turned in a quality start and pitched at least seven innings for the sixth consecutive game. The Yard Goats are now 2-3 on the two-city seven game road trip.
The Yard Goats took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning off Richmond starter Alfred Gutierrez. Tyler Nevin belted a double to centerfield and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Bret Boswell followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Nevin to make it 1-0. Gutierrez only allowed one other hit and retired 13 of the next 14 batters faced.
Richmond tied the game in the third inning with a two out mini rally. Bryce Johnson cracked a double and Fargas followed with a single to centerfield to make it 1-1.
The Flying Squirrels scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to break the tie. Johnson led off with a bunt single and Fargas came up with a double, scoring Johnson from first base to put Richmond in front for the first time. Later in the inning, Zach Houchins came through with a single to score Fargas and make it 3-1.
