
Marlies Slip Past Griffins 4-3 in Shootout

TORONTO - The Toronto Marlies came from behind to slip past the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night at the Ricoh Coliseum, in the fifth of a six game season series.
Completing their second of a 3-in-3 game set, the Griffins (24-24-1-8) wrapped up their last visit to Toronto (28-23-0-7) this season before heading home to Van Andel Arena to host the Peoria Rivermen Sunday at 4 p.m.
Grand Rapids took a late 1-0 lead over the Marlies, when Chris Minard slipped the puck past Andrew Engelage with only 31 seconds remaining in the first period. Cory Emmerton extended the Griffins advantage to 2-0 early in the second, with a goal at 5:25.
Toronto responded with two consecutive goals, Joel Colborne claimed the first at 7:12 of the frame, followed by Nazem Kadri, who put a power play goal past Jordan Pearce at 15:16. Tomas Tatar rounded out the period for the Griffins, giving them a 3-2 lead at 15:46.
Greg Scott evened the score 3-3 with a goal at 8:30 of the final stanza, sending the game into overtime. Grand Rapids was denied a goal in round five of a shootout in which Pearce stopped two of five attempts and posted 26 saves in the effort. Engelage stopped three of five shootout attempts and also contributed 26 saves for the Marlies.
