Worcester Sharks News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Sharks trailed 2-0 after the first period, battled back and forced overtime, but fell in the extra session 3-2 to the Falcons on Saturday evening at the Mass Mutual Center. Kyle Wilson scored all three goals for the Falcons as Springfield won for the third straight time.

Patrick Davis and Kevin Henderson scored for the Sharks and Daren Machesney made 22 saves in net for Worcester as they dropped their third straight game (0-2-1-0).

Fireworks kicked things right off from the opening shift as Falcons enforcer Tom Sestito took down Dan DaSilva with a hard cross check and then fought Joe Loprieno at :28 seconds of the first period. Sestito was given a double major and a game misconduct which gave the Sharks a three minute major power play right off the bat, but Worcester could not convert. Springfield took a 1-0 lead as Kyle Wilson (8th) snapped a shot through the pads of Daren Machesney at 13:46 from the right slot. Wilson (9th) gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead after he slipped the puck past Machesney at the side of the net after a scramble in front at 16:51. On the ensuing faceoff, Mike Swift and Chris D'Alvise went toe-to-toe in a lengthy battle at center ice at 16:57. The Sharks trailed 2-0 after the first period despite outshooting the Falcons 11-7.

In the middle frame, newcomer Patrick Davis (4th) scored his first goal in a Sharks jersey after he finished off a nice rush down the right wing, waited for Gustaf Wesslau to go down, and snapped a shot just inside the far post to get the Sharks on the board at 8:26. Brandon Mashinter got the lone assist after his pass from inside the Sharks blue line sprung Davis free. Worcester outshot the Falcons 8-4 in a relatively quiet second period.

Kevin Henderson (5th) tied the score at 2-2 with a terrific deflection from the left circle on a shot from Nick Petrecki at the left point at 4:25. The Sharks had a four minute power play late in the third period but could not covert as the game headed to overtime.

Nick Petrecki took an interference penalty in overtime to set up the game winner for Kyle Wilson (10th). Wilson grabbed the hat trick at 2:44 of overtime as he roofed a snap shot over the shoulder of the Sharks netminder from the left circle to give the Falcons their first three game win streak of the season.

The 4th place Sharks record falls to 25-20-3-6 with 59 points and to 11-12-2-3 on the road.
