Senators Hand Devils Last Second Loss

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Mike Hoffman scored with one second on the clock to give the Binghamton Senators a 4-3 overtime victory against the Albany Devils Saturday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The Devils fought back after falling behind, 3-1, but a penalty with 1:52 remaining in OT helped give the Senators their sixth straight win.

Hoffman scored on the back doorstep thanks to a pass by the league's top point getter, Corey Locke. Ryan Keller had the second assist.

The loss halted the Devils drive for their third straight victory. Albany is now 21-30-0-3, while the win moves the Senators to 30-20-3-3.

Steve Zalewski registered a pair of goals and Alexander Vasyunov netted the team's third goal. Zalewski now has four goals in five games since joining the team. Vasyunov posted his fourth goal of the season.

Zalewski opened the scoring at 10:56 of the first. He roofed his fourth goal in five games after creating an offensive-zone turnover.

Binghamton followed with three second period goals. Patrick Wiercioch found the back of the net first at 3:42 and Roman Wick followed with a power-play tally at 9:17. Then, with the Devils operating a man advantage, Kaspars Daugavins scored thanks to a caused turnover by Andrew Sweetland.

Before the period ended, Zalewski cashed in while on the power play with 11 seconds remaining. Matt Anderson and Chad Wiseman had the helpers. For Anderson, it was his team-leading 21st assist and 38th point. Wiseman registered his fourth point in the last two games.

In the third, Vasyunov tied it, going five hole at 9:37 with an assist going to Brad Mills. The goal was Vasyunov's fourth of the season, while Mills extended his scoring streak to four games (3g-1a).

In goal, Mike McKenna made 30 saves on 34 shots in his first game since Feb. 5. At the other end Barry Brust had 42 stops on 45 tries.

The Devils return to the ice Sunday for another installment of the Time Warner Cable Cup series against Adirondack. Puck drop is at 4 p.m. and fans can take advantage of $10 and $5 tickets when they present their Time Warner Cable bill at the box office.
