Panthers Return Callahan, McArdle Back to Amerks

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have reassigned veteran defenseman Joe Callahan and forward Kenndal McArdle back to the Amerks. The pair will rejoin Rochester later this evening as it takes on the Syracuse Crunch at 7:30 p.m. from the War Memorial at Oncneter.

Callahan, 28, has appeared in six games with Florida this season, averaging 14:25 minutes per game. For his career in the National Hockey League, he has played in 25 games with Florida (2010-11), San Jose (2009-10) and NY Islanders (2008-09), registering three assists and six penalty minutes.

The Brockton, Massachusetts, native has played in 46 games with Rochester this season, scoring three goals with nine assists for 12 points and 12 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound blueliner was drafted by Phoenix in the third round (70th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

McArdle returns after his brief one-day stint with the Panthers, seeing 6:45 of ice time in Florida's 4-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wing last night at the BankAtlantic Center. The 24-year-old has appeared in six games with Florida this season, including five to start the 2010-11 campaign. In 28 career NHL games, all with Florida, the Toronto, Ontario, native has scored one goal and added two assists for three points along with 42 penalty minutes.

A 2005 first-round selection (10th overall) of the Panthers, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward has played in 43 games with the Amerks this season, recording 22 points (12+10) and 87 penalty minutes.

The Amerks go for their fifth straight win tonight they head east down the I-90 to exchange pleasantries with the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. and will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Amerk fans in Rochester will also be able to watch the game live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
