Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that outfielder Michael Lissman and catcher Jonathan Johnston have been activated and added to the Cougars' 25-man roster. Catcher Gustavo Rosendo has been promoted to High-A Stockton while infielder Christian Vitters has been placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, retroactive to Saturday, May 10.
Rosendo, a 2002 free agent signee by Oakland, becomes the fourth player to receive a promotion from the Cougars to the Ports this season. In his professional career, Rosendo logged 80 games as a Cougar (68 games in 2007 and 12 this spring).
Johnston (42nd round, 2007) returns to the active roster after being placed on the temporary inactive list April 19 to fulfill duties at the United States Naval Academy. Johnston has played in 11 games this season for Kane County and joins fellow backstop Matt Smith as the two active catchers on the Cougars' roster.
Moving to the disabled list is Vitters (10th round, 2006) who is batting .257 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. So far this season, Vitters has played every infield position, with a majority of games played at third base. Lissman spent less than a week on the disabled list after being sidelined last Tuesday.
The Cougars (22-11) trail Clinton by 2.5 games in the Midwest League's Western Division entering play tonight. The squad returns home for a four-game series against the Kernels, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. RHP Scott Hodsdon (1-4, 6.17) takes the mound for the Cougars and is opposed by the Kernels' LHP Robert Fish (1-1, 5.77). First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
