Dayton Dragons News Release

Lansing, Mich.-Dayton pitchers Curtis Partch and Philippe Valiquette combined on a three-hitter as the Dragons defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 2-1 Monday night. With the win, the Dragons took over sole possession of first place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division, one game ahead of West Michigan.

Partch (2-4) did not allow an earned run for the second straight start. He worked six innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run with one walk and a season high seven strikeouts.

Valiquette worked the final three innings to earn his first save. He struck out six Lansing batters and retired nine of the 10 batters he faced, allowing only a seventh inning single.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Kevyn Feiner led off the inning with a line drive single to left and went to third on Angel Cabrera's bloop double to right. Justin Reed grounded out to short as Feiner scored to give the Dragons the lead.

Dayton added to its lead in the fifth. Cabrera walked with one out and Reed singled to center. On the play, Lansing center fielder Darin Mastroianni's throw into third hit Cabrera and bounced into the Dragons dugout to allow Cabrera to score and make it 2-0.

Lansing scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 2-1 but did not advance a runner past first base the rest of the night.

The Dragons meet the Lugnuts on Tuesday in a 10:30 a.m. game. Enerio Del Rosario (2-1, 1.38) will start for Dayton. The next home game is Friday at 7:05 p.m. against Great Lakes.
