Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL. - Greg Dowling delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 12 inning Monday night to propel the Kane County Cougars to a 4-3 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 4,222 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have won six of their last eight games and are 14-3 against teams in their own division. Walter Correa started the 12th with a walk against Ryan Brasier (0-2), and an error on Shane Keough's bunt allowed runners to be at first and second with no outs. Matt Ray's bunt single loaded the bases for Dowling, who pulled a 1-2 pitch into right for the game-winning hit and his 23rd RBI. It gave Scott Deal (3-0) the victory. Starter Scott Hodsdon put together his second straight solid performance with five innings of four-hit shutout work, no walks and four strikeouts. It appeared he would notch his second win of the season, as he left with a 2-0 lead. Todd Johnson notched a run-scoring grounder in the second, and Matt Smith singled in Shane Keough in the third for a 2-0 count. Then in the sixth Larry Cobb's sacrifice fly brought home Jake Smith to make it 3-0. Lance Sewell logged a scoreless sixth but then yielded one in each of the next three frames to let the Kernels tie it, 3-3.

The Cougars (23-11) and Kernels (17-19) play again Tuesday night at 6 CT when Scott Mitchinson (3-0, 2.54) faces Jordan Walden (1-3, 3.03).
