
Anton named MWL Pitcher of the Week

May 12, 2008 - Kernels LHP Michael Anton was named the Midwest League's Pitcher of the Week, for the week ending May 11. Anton is sharing the weekly award with Ramon Garcia of West Michigan. The Midwest League Office and Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) made the announcement Monday morning.
Anton threw a complete game, four hit shutout, on May 9 as the Kernels beat Wisconsin 5-0, as he struck out eight and walked two. Michael is 5-1 on the season with a 2.09 ERA in seven starts. In 47.1 IP, he has allowed 36 hits and 11 runs (all earned) with 11 walks and 32 strikeouts and the league is batting .213 against him.
Anton is the first Kernel to earn weekly honors. Sean Coughlin of South Bend was named the MWL Player of the Week.
The Kernels start a four game series at Kane County tonight at 6 pm and return home to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium for an 11 game home stand on Friday, May 16 with games against Clinton and Wisconsin.
