
Snappers Gearing Up for Big Homestand

The Beloit Snappers are FINALLY home to kick off one of their biggest homestands of the season. The homestand (May 12th - May 18th) will feature giveaways, fireworks and the return of Peoria Chiefs manager and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg.
The first giveaway is a bandana on Friday, May 16th. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive this complimentary bandana courtesy of the Beloit Daily News.
On Saturday, May 17th, the Snappers will be hosting their very first fireworks show of the season. The fireworks will be compliments of the Econo Lodge in Beloit.
On May 17th the Snappers will also be teaming up with the Rock River Valley Blood Center to host their annual Blood Drive at Pohlman Field. The Blood Drive will run from 2:00pm until 6:00pm in the Snappers Cranston Road parking lot with 105.9 FM The Hog broadcasting LIVE.
All donors will receive a free General Admission ticket to the Beloit Snappers vs. Peoria Chiefs game on Saturday, May 17th. Donors will also be entered in a prize drawing that includes a chance to win a Snappers prize pack, one of two fun-filled Rock River Valley Blood Center backpacks, Snappers tickets and Snappers autographed items.
On May 18th the Snappers will be giving away Junk Balls to the first 500 fans in attendance. The Junk Balls are courtesy of TruGreen Chemlawn.
This homestand will also mark the return of former Chicago Cub great Ryne Sandberg to Pohlman Field. Sandberg and his Peoria Chiefs will be making their first of two visits to Beloit this summer on Friday, May 16th through Sunday, May 18th.
Ryne Sandberg played for the Cubs from 1982-1994 and again from 1996-1997 after starting his career with the Philadelphia Phillies. Sandberg had a .285 career batting average with 282 home runs, 1061 RBI's, and 403 doubles. He won nine straight Gold Gloves from 1983-1991 and made the All-Star team every season from 1984-1993. In 1984, "Ryno" won the National League MVP Award with a .314 average, 19 home runs, 36 doubles, 19 triples, and 84 RBI's.
Sandberg set a Major League record for most consecutive games and chances at second base without an error. He also retired with more home runs than any other second baseman in the history of baseball. On August 28th, 2005, the Chicago Cubs retired his jersey #23 and his flag is located below Billy Williams' on the flagpole in right field.
