Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs placed Chris Siegfried on the disabled list on Wednesday due to a strain to his right oblique. Right hander Kevin Kreier will be moved up from extended spring training to keep the Chiefs active roster at 25. Kreier is scheduled to arrive in Peoria at 2 pm today and will be available for the first game of the Chiefs and Quad Cities series at 6:30 pm.

Siegfried suffered the strain to his oblique while backing up third base in the first inning on Wednesday in Cedar Rapids. He stayed in to pitch five innings and pick up the win as the Chiefs defeated the Kernels 13-7.

This year for the Chiefs, Siegfried is 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA in seven games started. He earned a spot in the Chiefs starting rotation after spending the 2007 season coming out of the bullpen. He has given up 44 hits and 25 runs while striking out 14 in 33 innings of work. In Siegfried's 28 innings on the mound, the Chiefs offense has managed just 11 runs.

Last season in Mesa Kreier was 0-1, posting an 11.78 ERA in 12 appearances. A 20th round selection for the Cubs in 2006, Kreier gave up 33 hits and 25 runs in 18 1/3 innings of work. The 20-year-old is a native of Henderson, Nevada, where he attended Foothill High School.

Tonight will be a Sprint Money Monday, featuring half-price admission for all tickets, and all fans will have the chance to win $50,000. Also, the Quad Cities River Bandits are affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals, and this four-game series will be the only Cubs vs. Cardinals affiliation battle at O'Brien Field this year.
