Burlington Bees News Release

Appleton, WI (May 12, 2008) - The Burlington Bees opened a four-game series at Wisconsin Monday night and ended a three-game losing streak as they defeated the Timber Rattlers 1-0 in ten innings. The victory was just the second extra-inning win of the season for the Bees.

The two teams played scoreless through nine innings of baseball. Alex Caldera got the start for the Bees and was very good. He went seven innings allowing just four hits with nine strikeouts and just one walk. The nine strikeout performance tied a season high for Caldera.

During the first nine innings, the Bees left eight runners on. The Bees finally got on the board in the tenth inning. Wisconsin relief pitcher Walter Suriel came out for his third inning of work and allowed the bases to get loaded with two outs. Ryan Moorer came out of the bullpen for the Timber Rattlers and the first pitch he threw was wild, which allowed Adrian Ortiz to score. That was the only run the Bees need to win.

Chris Chavez pitched three innings and finished the game to pick up his third win of the season. He allowed just two hits with four strikeouts. The game ended when Bees catcher Ryan Eigsti threw Denny Almote out in an attempt to steal second base. In all, Eigsti threw out three base runners in the contest.

The Bees had six hits in the game. Mike Moustakas and Alwin Perez each had two.

The Bees will play the second game of the four-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 with Zach Peterson taking the mound for the Bees. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home Friday night to begin a seven-day home stand at Community Field.
