Snappers Fall Short in Game One

The Clinton LumberKings took game one of a four-game series with the Snappers, 6-5, ending Beloit's five-game winning streak. Beloit's Santos Arias picked up his first loss of the season, going five innings and allowing three runs off seven hits.

The LumberKings jumped out to an early lead with single runs in the top of the first and second innings. After a scoreless third inning, Clinton added to their lead with another run in the top of the fourth to get out to an early 3-0 lead.

The Snaps bounced back and got on the board with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Beloit got their run on a Jair Fernandez RBI-single to center. Jair's single allowed Garrett Olson, who earlier walked, to score from second base. Olson's run made it a 3-1 ballgame after four.

Beloit got another run in the bottom of the fifth inning off the bat of Mark Dolenc. Mark delivered an RBI-single to third, allowing speedy Ben Revere to score. Revere's run drew the Snappers to within one run, 3-2.

Clinton then scored three runs over the next two innings to push their lead back to three, 6-2.

Ramon Santana then delivered a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh and Mark Dolenc scored on throwing error from Clinton's Mitch Moreland in the bottom of the eighth to pull Beloit back to within two runs, 6-4.

After a scoreless top half of the ninth, the Snappers entered the bottom half down by two.

Joe Benson hit a one-out double to right, advanced to third on a Ben Petsch single to short and scored on a passed ball by catcher Jose Felix to make it a 6-5 game. After a Ramon Santana pop out to first, Ben Revere walked to put two on with two down. Mark Dolenc then proceeded to strike out looking to end the game and send the LumberKings to a game-one victory, 6-5.

Joe Benson went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored for Beloit who dropped to 17-19 on the season. The win pushed the LumberKings to a 25-8 record.
