Lynx quash Inferno, 4-1

Columbia, SC - Daveco McKee stopped 34 of 35 shots to earn his sixth straight win while Dirk Southern scored twice, including the game winner, and notched an assist as the Augusta Lynx downed the Columbia Inferno 4-1 Tuesday night.

The two teams traded first period goals, with former Lynx Anthony Battaglia netting the game's first marker at 5:50 of the opening frame. Dirk Southern posted the Augusta response at 13:04, tipping a shot under the left pad of Inferno netminder Robert Gherson with help from Aaron Slattengren and Weston Tardy.

Augusta broke open the game in the second with a pair of shorthanded markers. Southern's second of the night coming on a two-on-one break with Ryan Lang, followed by Aaron Slattengren's sixth of the season just over two minutes later at 11:12 of the frame.

With the assist on Southern's goal, Lang now has points in 12 straight games (4-17-21), the longest active scoring streak in the ECHL.

Joe Pereira notched the final goal in the contest at12:57 of the third period from Southern and Eric Lundberg to ice the win, Augusta's first on the road since November 25 at Pensacola which snaps a six game winless streak away from the James Brown Arena.

The Lynx will now head north to battle Trenton, Johnstown, Wheeling, and Dayton before returning home February 1 against the Florida Everblades at 7:35 pm.
