Falcons Fall to Ice Dogs in Shootout

Frenso, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs defeated the Fresno Falcons 3-2 in a shootout in front of 3,418 fans at Save Mart Center on Tuesday.

Long Beach drew first blood 3:14 into the first period. Ryan MacDonald made a blocker pad save on a long-range shot by Bo Cheesman, but the rebound came free into the left-wing circle, and Brad Bonnello was able to one time a shot past the Falcons' goaltender to give the Ice Dogs' a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons pulled even late in the period at 18:46. John Wroblewski moved the puck to John Morlang in the neutral zone, creating a 2-on-1 rush into the Long Beach zone. Morlang fed Rob McFeeters in the left-wing circle, and he snapped a shot past Brett Jaeger for the tying goal.

Fresno took the lead with just 9.1 seconds remaining in the second period. Morlang skated into the Long Beach zone, and fed Wroblewski, who beat Jaeger with a quick wrist shot from the top of the right-wing circle.

The Ice Dogs tied the score at 2:37 of the third period. Terry Harrison gathered in the puck behind the Fresno net, and centered in front for Cheesman, who beat MacDonald over the glove side.

Neither team scored the rest of the way in regulation, or in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. In the shootout, the Ice Dogs scored on each of their first three shots, while Jaeger blanked the Falcons on their three opportunities, giving Long Beach the win.

Wednesday, the Falcons travel to Bakersfield for a 7:00 p.m. face-off against the Condors. Catch all of the play-by-play action on 1550 Sporting News Radio, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show at 6:45.

The Falcons return to Save Mart Center on Friday, hosting the Phoenix RoadRunners at 7:30 p.m. The first 3,000 fans in attendance receive a free Falcons All Star Poster courtesy of Dumont Printing, ABC 30, and 95.7 The Fox. The posters feature the Falcons All Star representatives Luke Curtin, Ryan MacDonald, and Tom Walsh, and all three players will be signing autographs on the concourse following the game.

Also following the game, fans are invited to join Falcons' players at Logan's Roadhouse, located at 7507 N. Blackstone Ave. for a post-game party. Friday's game also features the Falcons/Golden Valley Girl Scouts Council Cookie Rally. Friday is the first day that Girl Scout Cookies go on sale, and Girl Scouts will be at Save Mart Center taking orders. The Girl Scouts will also be participating in an on-ice parade during the first intermission.
