Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today that they will be partnering with local companies and individuals to raise money for the Ross Minor Medical Fund.
This past June, Ross, 8, and his brother Ryan, 10, were both shot by their father who then turned the gun on himself. Ryan died from the gun shot while Ross survived, but lost 100% of his vision.
The Charlotte Checkers began their relationship with the Minor family by hosting a guest bartending event at Encore Bar and Bistro in Blakeney in November. With players and CheckMates in attendance, over $3,200 was raised for the Ross Minor Medical Fund. The fundraising effort continues at the game on Saturday, Feb. 10 when the Checkers take on the Texas Wildcatters at 7:30 pm.
Companies partnering with the Checkers in this fundraising campaign are as follows:
BJ Lathan
Beau Markolf Family
Creative Sewing and Vacuums in Stonecrest
Nothing But Noodles in Stonecrest

Romano's Macaroni Grill in the Promenade on Providence
