Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Manitoba Moose and the Vancouver Canucks, tried to settle the high-flying Pacific Division Condors in the rubber match at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Despite inching within one goal twice in the second period, Victoria was vanquished 4-2 by the visiting Bakersfield squad.

In the opening frame, Bakersfield Centre Kevin St. Jacques carried the puck into the Victoria zone and slipped past a fallen Salmon Kings defenseman to go short side on Goaltender Bryan Bridges and gain the 1-0 advantage.

At 5:34 into the second period, the Condors went ahead 2-0 as St. Jacques tallied his second goal of the game during a powerplay. After a couple of saves, St. Jacques lifted the puck from the top of the left circle beyond the reach of a screened Bridges. Victoria dug the puck out of the corner to find Marc-Andre Bernier in the left slot, and his wristshot trickled past Jamie Hodson for his sixth goal in 11 games.

Bakersfield regained the two-goal lead with Kevin Truelson's fourth goal of the season with 7:50 remaining in the second. His shot from a few feet above the right circle deflected over Bridges stick and into the top shelf.

Under two minutes later, Victoria capitalized on a powerplay as Kiel McLeod rifled a shot off Hodson's mask, and it rebounded onto the stick of Jordan Krestanovich, who lit the lamp and closed the gap to 3-2.

Bakersfield netted an insurance goal with 4:56 remaining in the second period. A cross ice feed from Truelson to Josh Liebenow was fired top corner.

The Condors nested their lead in the third period despite some Victoria pressure and a 6-on-4 advantage in the final minute.

Final: 4-2 Condors

Hodson nabbed his 18th win of the season, and Bridges, despite making 39 saves and earning the second star, was handed his 14th loss. Victoria went 1 for 5 on the powerplay and Bakersfield went 1 for 7 with the man advantage. The Condors outshot the Salmon Kings 43-25.

The Salmon Kings (14-26-0-1) ship off to Long Beach (11-22-0-2) for a Wednesday night match versus the Ice Dogs. The Salmon Kings defeated Long Beach 6-4 in their last meeting.
