January 23, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jon Awe has been called up to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League while defenseman Brian Lee has been reassigned to Gwinnett from their AHL affiliate Chicago.
Awe makes his second trip to the Wolves this season while it is his third call up to the American Hockey League this year. Awe was scoreless in two games with the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins in December while he was scoreless in one game with Chicago in the Wolves 6-3 loss against Hamilton on December 13th.
The Memphis, Tennessee native currently ranks fourth in scoring on the Gladiators with 43 points off of 20 goals and 23 assists. He leads the ECHL in power play goals with 17, an ECHL record for most power play goals in a season by a defenseman.
Awe set an ECHL record posting the Hardest Shot with a 102.2 MPH slapshot during the 2007 RBK ECHL All Star Game Skill Competition on Tuesday, January 16th breaking Jaroslav Obsut's record of 99.3 MPH set in 1999.
Lee returns to the Gladiators where he has collected a goal and 5 assists for 6 points in 38 games with Gwinnett. His +2, plus-minus ranks third among Gwinnett blueliners this season.
The Berrien Springs, Michigan native was scoreless in four games with the Wolves while on recall as he posted a +2 rating during that span.
Lee should be available for the Gladiators for Friday's 7:30 start at the Germain Arena against the Florida Everblades.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue their fourth season as a proud member of the ECHL on January 26th as they travel to Florida to take on the Everblades at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now.
