Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx got back on the winning side of the ice against the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday, breaking a seven game team losing streak, and besting the Checkers for the first time this year in a 5-4 regulation win on Sunday afternoon.

Ken Magowan led the scoring off in the first period, but Charlotte responded with a pair of goals to forge a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Kicking off the second period, however, Augusta exploded for three goals in the first ten minutes of the period for a 4-2 lead. Magowan, Todd Bennett, and Jim Shepherd all scored in a span just over five minutes long to thrust the Lynx back into the lead. A late power play marker in the period closed the gap to 4-3 for the Checkers heading into the third period.

Lawne Snyder would once again provide a two-goal cushion for the Lynx with his contribution, but Aaron Smith kept the Checkers in it with a final tally at 10:27 of the third. Even with the net empty, however, Charlotte came up short in a 5-4 Lynx win. Matus Kostur stopped 21 shots to pick up his third win of the year for the Lynx. Bennett finished with a goal and three assists on the night to aid the team as well.

December 31st @ Pee Dee

Nick Boucher has started all three games against the Lynx for the Pride, and carries a GAA of 0.97 against the club into the game with his 3-0-0 record. Pee Dee's Brian Collins has two goals and four points to lead all scorers in the series thus far. The two teams will collide a total of seven times this year.
